Mr. Ian - NICU - Cincinnati Child Photographer

I don't even know how many times I have photographed this little guy. But every single time is special. This was the first time I have ever seen him in his clothes and the first time I watched his mother pick him up carefree, like a mother should be. No nurses helping her, no 10 wires and tubes... I have never seen my friend this happy.
Ian - you amaze me every single time I see you. You are truly a miracle and I am so thankful that I get the opportunity capture this miracle.
Eli - you are the reason I hug my children a little tighter, or read them another bed time story after I already read 10. Thank you for giving me back a little more patience with my children. Miss you.

30 in January - Cincinnati Family Photographer

Last year I tried to put together a calendar of my children for Christmas and I realized I didn;t have pictures of my kids in some months. It made me sad. I photographed 130 families last year, documented important milestones in their lives, such as births, birthdays and weddings but I failed photogaphing my children in day to day activities. I knew I had to change this and so I have decided to do a 365 this year. 365 pictures of my children in 2013. Every day a picture.

I have done this before... many times, but have always failed. What is different this time? Nothing! No expectations at all. I actuatlly missed day 3. Totally forgot. No excuse, but I decided not to give up but move on.

So far I am loving it. I made it to the end of January and I have more picture (including the take outs) of my children this month than in the entire 2012!

Here are some of my favorites from January.

Love - Cincinnati Family Photographer

My last session of 2012 and one of my favorites. And not only because the people in these pictures are some of my favorite people in the world but because you can feel the love in these pictures.
It was a very chaotic session. Finn was with me (their godson), he tried everything to get in the picture with them. He just couldn't understand why he was not included in their family picture ;) Their kids were happy and can we say a wee bit hyper... lots of giggles and squirms. It really was fun! And we just let them... have fun and that's what you see in the pictures.

Playdate with Jack & Annie - Life As Is - Cincinnati Family Photographer

My favorite type of session... a Life As Is session. Jack & Annies Mom asked me to come by and photograph her children play with their grandparents. What I got were some genuine smiles and memories that will now last forever.

Photo bombing

A few weeks ago I shared this picture on my Facebook business page.

This is what happens when I take Finn to work with me. He will be in a few pictures accidentally... photo bombing!

This past week Finn's godparents came to visit and one afternoon we went down to a small river and I took a few pictures of them.

We planned on going out to eat afterwards so Scot and the kids came with us.

Now this is what happened in pictures.

While I was taking this picture

I see in the corner of my eye Finn doing this

Yep that is Finn pulling down his pants, so he could pee in the water!

Later...

I was taking this picture of little Pauli

When I hear screaming and I look up and see this

Finn swimming in the river! Now, don't be alarmed the water was very shallow. He is actually just laying on his belly on the gravel, but still... Scot and Finn's godfather are close by and making sure he is not going any further out.

You would think this is the end, right? Nope!

I was taking this picture

When I see someone come running towards me

Of course, Finn!

He is standing dripping wet over me and I shot this picture. One of my favorites of him

Notice the tube still in the back. Paulie is still in character posing for me.

After we were done I wanted to take one more picture of Finn... Something I have had in mind for a while now and keep seeing variations of it pinned on Pinterest.

I undressed him... put on his mask and cape and without posing this is what I got

Never a dull moment with this kid!

We are still here

I haven't forgotten about this blog... we are just enjoying our summer. Spending every waking moment with the neighborhood kids, going swimming, hiking and fishing. Fighting with brothers, spending hours making lego creations, catching fire flies. It's been a good summer so far! The boys are having a blast and we have one more trip planned before school starts!

But, still I am ready for school! 28 more days!  I am sure some can relate with me.

See you soon!

Raising boys

I had a session last night.
Since the boys needed to get out of the house for a while and the weather was gorgeous, Scot decided to come with me and let the kids play at the park.
At the end of my session (also two boys) all the kids became instant friends and played for at least another hour.
While the kids played I had an interesting conversation with the Dad on how fun it is raising boys, especially brothers.
We both agreed, the teenage years should be a lot easier with boys then girls. We also spend a lot less money on clothing and accesories for boys. Boys don't care if they get dirty.
On our way back to the car Finn (newly potty trained) told me he had to go pee pee. This particular park does not offer any kind of public restrooms, so I took him to the edge of the park, pulled his pants down and he did his business.
Another thing that is easier about boys! haha

Not saying that girls are not amazing to raise and have other awesome qualities (remember I am a girl myself) but I think raising little boys is still very special to a Mommy's heart.

Haircut Time for Jake.

We are having our family pictures done this Friday and his hair was getting a little too shaggy.

Problem is: Scot wants his hair long, I like it short. Jake could care less.

Every time I take him to get a hair cut, they cut way too much off and Scot blames me.

So, I started trimming it myself for as long as I can. I have no idea what I am doing and I am sure whoever professional cuts his hair after x amount of my trimmings will be able to tell a crazy mom, took some cheap scissors to this boys hair.

Oh well.

And no I don't use Windex to spray on his hair... the bottle has been empty long time ago and now serves for my water sprayer on wrinkly clothes ;)

July 9th, 2012

We have been spending a lot of time this year in waiting rooms. Finn has been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder at the beginning of the year. There is a possible Aspbergers diagnoses but I am not sure about that yet. Life has always been much more stressfull with Finn. Scot and I have this saying "Everything is harder with Finn"... showers, cooking, eating, sleeping, driving... everything can be a struggle. Granted since we started the process of figuring out what's going on with him we have received lots of help and he is doing much, much better. We see a Sleep Therapist once a week, Speech, OT and some amazing people from Help me Grow. Things are really looking up and I know we are sooo close to figuring out what is going on with our little Monster. But in the mean time we have lots more Dr. visits (4 alone this week) and using the waiting rooms to catch up on our naps!
